Work Area and Scientific Interests:
Since over 20 years I am studying population biology of vertebrate animals, first of all amphibians (frogs, toads, newts, salamanders). My scientific interests include evolutionary ecology, microevolution and speciation of terrestrial vertebrates, hybrid zones, the role of selection and gene drift in evolution, population dynamics in space and time, life cycles, developmental ecology, community ecology, and biogeography. My interests include also wildlife conservation and land use; I work as a conservation officer of a non-governmental organization Georgian Center for Conservation of Wildlife (GCCW “Bude”) (see the website of our NGO at www.gccw.org). This website is largely dedicated to the indigenous nature of the Caucasus, especially its animal world, in the evolutionary context.
